Home: How to build a Hifi systemBelow is a step by step guide to setting up a new two channel system. 1. Ensure all your equipment is turned off and not plugged into a wall socket. 2. Plan the position of your equipment, make sure your speaker cable length is correct. 3. Make sure you have enough mains socket for designated room positions. 4. Ideally you'll have a rack shelf cabinet for each piece of equipment. 5. Try to keep the speakers as far away as possible, so vibrations from the bass etc. will not interfere with the performance of your components. 6. Ventilation is the next thing to consider. Amps will especially generate alot of heat. 7. Therefore, it's usually a good idea not to place another unit on top of, or below an amplifier. 8. Ensure the condition of the main socket and block your using is good. The quality of the mains connection can effect the sound quality to a surprising degree. 9. Make sure the cable connections are firm, and cables are tidily and safety placed away. 10. Speaker positioning, your listening position should be further away than the two speakers are from each other. 11. Give your new equipment a few days to bed-in. Equipment will sound better after a few days, speakers can especially be damaged if the volume is too high when brand new.
